So for the past 18 months this weed that's kind of like a clover but not has been spreading all over my side yard.  At first I just ignored it because I thought the winter would kill it dead and I could just spray in the spring to keep it from coming back but I was wrong.  That shit just came back stronger than ever and it now threatens to take over that entire part of my yard.  I thought that the leaves from the fall would at least kill some of it, but it turns out this particular weed grows in moist shady areas.

And thanks to my yard having trees that are older than the dirt they grow there is plenty of shade to grow.  In fact there's so much shade that huge parts of my yard are now dieing off because not enough sunlight penetrates for the grass to grow.  I have to say it's pretty awesome to be mowing when you hit a large patch of dirt and the mower just blows a ton of dust up in front of you that you now have to walk through and breathe in.  But I digress, this isn't about how I have too many trees in my yard but can't cut any of them down because the trees are the most valuable part of my property, this is about how I'm trying to kill that bastard weed.

this weed will fuck up your yard

So naturally I decided to buy some Round Up to kill it last year, I decided to test it out by spraying one patch about 10 times over the course of a month.  After that month was up the patch of weed actually seemed to grow better than the rest of it.  Apparently the only thing Round Up can make is that stuff that kills everything, and I'd like to keep my grass for now.

After ruing the day I thought Round Up would actually work I went back to the store to see if there was a more potent form or weed killer I can use.  One that will leave my grass intact whilst murdering those awful awful weeds.  The nice sales guy at Menards told me to buy this thing called Ortho.  Apparently this stuff is so strong that you have to dilute it in water.

Die weeds, DIE

Well this is all nice but I can not just go and poke a hole in the lid and spray it all over my grass like a poor mans squirt gun (yes I had many a squirt gun made of plastic bottles as a kid).  So the nice sales guy at Menards pointed me to this sprayer thing.  Now shit is getting real.

So I've followed the instructions on the bottle of Ortho, 1 oz per gallon of water.  I initally sprayed 2 gallons  on my yard, most of it going on that bastard weedy patch.  Then last week I sprayed another gallon, all on that big patch.  This is what it looks like as of yesterday.

Also, there's a patch of dirt in the lower left that seems to grow taller by the day

So as you can see this is a resounding success.  If you count success as not doing a damn thing so far.  I'll give this Ortho stuff until the bottle runs out, but if I don't see some wtf murdered weeds by the end of the bottle I might just consider lighting my yard on fire when fall comes and all the leaves fall off the trees.
